Olivia Rodrigo follows up record-breaking ‘Drivers License’ with new ‘Deja Vu’ single

Olivia Rodrigo was bumped from the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 by Drake’s “What’s Next” on March 15, and Thursday, the “Drivers License” breakout star revealed exactly what’s next by dropping her second single called “Deja Vu.” The track’s official music video appropriately begins with Rodrigo back in the car, reminiscing on better days with her ex-lover:

 

“Drivers License” told a narrative story of the drive past her ex’s house and all the various landmarks that triggered memories of him. The record-breaking ballad, rumored to be about her Disney High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Joshua Bassett, debuted at No. 1 and spent eight weeks in that position.

“Deja Vu” is similarly textured—showcasing an impressive falsetto and more uptempo beat—and boasts the same strong narrative lyricism that caught the attention of Taylor Swift, Rodrigo’s all-time favorite artist and this generation’s most prolific songwriter.
